UNIX systems and TCP/IP network architecture/design, installation, integration, and administration. 23 years experience in the computer field: 18 years as an independent computer consultant and systems/network operations manager, and 5 years in software engineering and computer operations integration.

Professional Experience

C*O, NeTrack: 3/96 - present

Manage and implement all aspects of the operations of this successful ISP: sales, engineering, installation, support, administration, facilities, etc. Planned and executed a zero-downtime network facility move. Provide service to and support customers world-wide including Hong Kong, Australia, Germany, and Switzerland. Operation is designed for minimal maintenance. Services range from T3 and DSL to wireless, VoIP, and satellite. Also co-founder/owner. Certified installer of Tachyon satellite systems.

Executive Director, Colorado Internet Cooperative Association: 2/96 - 7/01 (half time)

Managed all aspects of the operations of this regional wholesale and non-profit Internet Service Provider. Acted in this capacity since 1/94 as co-founder and President until appointed as Executive Director. Supervised two employees and multiple technical support contracts. Managed annual budget of approx $1M. Accountable to Board of Directors. Developed, implemented and enforced policy. Resolved member disputes. Negotiated vendor contracts. Planned and conducted annual membership meetings and elections. Represented the Coop to the public including working with the press. Wrote newsletters. Managed web and mail server. Designed the cooperative ISP model which has been replicated successfully elsewhere. Financial planning was so accurate that the Coop didn't need to adjust pricing for 3-5 years.

Principal Consultant, Labyrinth Computer Services: 9/88 - 2/96

Provided consulting and training services to a wide variety of clients. Evaluated, designed, and recommended new integrated systems and networks, software, hardware, and network configurations. Installed and configured new information systems and networks. Installed connections to the Internet including mail, DNS, and security. Trained support staff and users. Optimized operations. Isolated and resolved system and network problems. Developed and/or reviewed training material. Taught technical workshops. Reviewed technical books. Served as technical expert witness. Clients included U S WEST Advanced Technologies, Digital Equipment Corp, Addison-Wesley Technology Exchange Company, and Global Knowledge Network.

Manager of Computing Operations, University of Colorado at Boulder: 9/89 - 4/94

Managed the computing operations and networks for faculty and graduate research in the Computer Science Department. Operation included approximately 10 strongly heterogeneous networks, 200 computers, 6-10 operations staff, $.5M annual budget. Also performed duties as lead network and computer systems administrator, trained all staff, and assisted/coordinated with other departments and the Internet community. This operation performed all aspects of self-maintenance for software and hardware. Vendor maintenance contracts were minimal or rare. We also had the first WWW site in Colorado.

Software Engineer, Martin Marietta Astronautics, Denver CO: 9/85 - 9/88

Software Engineer on Space Station bid and Transfer Orbit Stage development projects. Installed and supported analysis, development and office automation computing and network environment. Installed and maintained project Internet mail connection and inter-departmental network connection. Maintained real-time aeronautics software (code in orbit now). Performed redesign impact studies, system requirements analyses, and preliminary design for spacecraft systems. Performed system integration testing of flight systems.

Member of Technical Staff, Computer Sciences Corporation - System Sciences Division, Greenbelt MD: 5/83 - 9/85

Member of the Mission Support Team and performed computing operation requirements analysis, integration testing, and operational support of real-time flight data acquisition and trajectory analysis system for manned and unmanned NASA spacecraft missions on-site at the Goddard Space Flight Center.
